Interestingly, the film quietly — but not really — builds to a final act that puts fierce rival/dear friend/sometime partner-turned-uncontrollably-smiling Rafael Nadal almost front and center — or at least, right next to the main man, where he lived, professionally. Almost two decades.
A tribute to how the pair pushed each other and the game to new heights, evolving from arch nemesis (on the court at least) to beloved elder statesman with a common enemy in the suddenly supersized Novak Djokovic — maintaining a deep mutual respect throughout their careers that remains unmatched in any sport. A tearful Nadal bid farewell to Federer at London’s O2 Arena will only ease the hardest of hearts.
